He beat bingeing

Last Thanksgiving “was a big eye-opener for me,” says Alex DePinto, a 28-year-old video producer/editor at The Post. “I ate so much that I threw up . . . and was coughing up blood.” He had to have an emergency endoscopy.

“The doctor was like, ‘You need to change your diet,’ ” says the Yonkers resident, who weighed around 240 pounds at the time and regularly ate to the point of sickness, scarfing down whole pizzas and cartons of ice cream.

In June, he struck a deal with a trainer pal of his — DePinto would help him create videos for his gym, Transform Fitness and Training, in exchange for workouts. “I started going to the gym once a week and I hated it,” he says of the cardio and weightlifting sessions. “And then I moved to two times a week, and then three. And six weeks in, I was like, ‘Oh, wow, I really like this.’ ” He now hits the gym for two hours, five days a week. So far, he’s dropped 48 pounds, which he attributes to both his intense workouts and mending his relationship with food.

He tried a handful of diets, but felt best when he ate smaller portions of the foods he loved. Instead of a full pizza, he’ll have a couple slices. Instead of a double cheeseburger with fried onions and cheese fries, he’ll opt for a plain burger.

“You can’t deprive yourself of things, because you’ll go nuts,” he says. “I’ve learned to be content without stuffing [my face].”
