Weird BUT true

Living on Mars is sounding better by the day.

Portions of the United States are actually colder than the Red Planet — which is 48.7 million miles farther from the sun than Earth is — amid an arctic chill this week.

NASA’s Mars Rover last registered -9 degrees at the planet’s equator on Dec. 20, but some parts of the US have dipped well below that mark this week.

This woman wears her heart on her . . . shoulders?

British mom Selwa Hussain, 39, wears a backpack with an artificial pump that keeps her blood flowing.

Doctors removed her failing heart in July and replaced it with a series of plastic chambers that keep her blood flowing. A backpack machine pumps air through tubes that lead into her chest to power the device.

She’s waiting for a transplant to get her off the machines for good. This one’s a head-scratcher. Southwest Airlines gave a Chicago family the boot from a flight to Disneyland because other passengers feared they had lice.

The Newman clan was headed to Santa Ana, Calif., when the father plucked some schmutz from his daughter’s hair at the airport. Fellow fliers complained the kid had lice and Southwest wouldn’t let the Newmans board.

“We don’t even have lice,” said the dad, who gave the first initial J.

The mom of a 7-year-old Oklahoma kid who wrecked a stolen car in December said that was the fourth car he’d stolen that week.

Cyndi Nichols of Wagoner County claimed her son Chance has been left to his own devices since he was put in his father’s custody.

The weather left them in a pickle.

The Pennsylvania town of Dillsburg canceled its New Year’s Eve “pickle drop” because it’s too cold.

“ALL NEW YEARS EVE ACTIVITIES ARE CANCELLED!!! NO PICKLE DROP!” the town posted on Facebook. Max Jaeger,Wires
