JPP disses no-show fans

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

The paid attendance at MetLife Stadium on an arctic (wind chill of 1 degree) Sunday afternoon was 76,269, but it appeared about 50,000 paying customers decided to spend their New Year’s Eve elsewhere. That did not sit well with at least one player after the Giants finished up their 3-13 season with an 18-10 victory over the Redskins.

“Obviously the so-called fans weren’t out there, but I appreciate all the fans that came out to show their support,’’ Jason Pierre-Paul said. “Without them, it’s really just us. So, I appreciate the fans that came out. They didn’t have to, but those are the true Giants fans.’’

Ereck Flowers started the previous 15 games this season at left tackle but was inactive for this game. He was limited all week in practice with a strained groin. Reports surfaced that Flowers did not want to play in the game and made that feeling known to his coaches, prompting the deactivation.

“Ereck Flowers was deactivated because of an injury, OK?’’ interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo said. “I know some other things have been said out there.’’

As he walked out of the stadium, Flowers said he wanted to play and said the reports were “false’’ that he did not play for any reason other than injury.

“I wasn’t suspended, wasn’t benched,’’ he said. Bobby Hart, the starting right tackle, was Rookie QB Davis

Webb was active for the first time all season but spent the afternoon looking quite cold on the sideline. The plan all along was for this to be a redshirt year for Webb, watching and learning, and despite all the losses, that is exactly what transpired.

The 2018 schedule is now set for the Giants: They will play the Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, Saints, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Titans and Bears at home. Big Blue will take on the Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, Panthers, Falcons, Texans, Colts and 49ers on the road.
