We need to support the Iranian protesters, who have had enough of their corrupt dictatorship, led by the ayatollahs’ false interpretation of Islam (“Unquiet Americans,” Benny Avni, PostOpinion, Jan. 2).
Young Iranians want to join the modern world and have no beef with the West.
Iran is a failed state in its current form. Listen to the people of Iran and help them in any way possible.

There may be an important distinction between today’s protests in Iran and those of 2009.
Even before he was elected, President Barack Obama wrote Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khameini about improving relations between Iran and the United States.
According to former Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren, Obama had his “deal” in mind even before the protests.
If so, Khameini may have felt that the United States wouldn’t support demonstrations, leaving Iran free to crack down.
