Time to go Gett Eli’s successor

- Steve Serby steve.serby@nypost.com

YOU, Josh Rosen, or you, Sam Darnold, come on down and take a bite of the Big Apple. The news that both hotshot college quarterbacks have decided they will enter the NFL draft sent the hearts of Giants fans aflutter Wednesday night.

The football gods have smiled on the New York Football Giants.

The Dave Gettleman Giants own the second pick.

GO GETT ONE.

Rosen doesn’t want to play for the Browns, who own the first overall pick for the second straight year.

He does want to be Broadway Josh.

And Darnold will want to be Broadway Sam.

After much deliberation, after further review, I am in favor of picking your next franchise quarterback, your next Eli Manning, with an opportunity that comes along once every several decades — unless you are the Browns.

As long, of course, as Gettleman falls in love with either of them.

This development, of course, impacts Manning, who celebrated his 37th birthday Wednesday. The moment of truth is nearing for him now.

With both Rosen and Darnold there for the taking, this could give Manning pause about returning to the Giants. It could convince him to waive his no-trade clause and finish his Hall of Fame career elsewhere.

Gettleman will meet soon with Manning and the summit will likely result in a resolution. Here’s hoping Manning will be on board with mentoring one of the young guns along with Davis Webb — if given the chance. You can never have enough pitching.

If Manning balks, he won’t get to be a Giant For Life, and tears will be shed, many by John Mara.

Rosen and Darnold declaring for the draft will make it easier for the new Giants regime to consider a philosophical shift away from harboring both a Quarterback of the Present and Quarterback of the Future.

Manning believes that given an offensive line, he can play at a high level. “I want to play,” he has said repeatedly.

I had originally favored a Manning-Webb succession plan, but I have come to the conclusion you have to use the second pick of the draft on a quarterback if you love one of them.

A nice enticement for the next Giants head coach, no? Rosen announced he would be leaving UCLA first, and within minutes, Darnold announced he would be leaving USC.

Rosen has the kind of arm that will whistle footballs through any MetLife Stadium wind.

Darnold has a long windup and is more of a developmental quarterback, but many believe he has a higher upside.

Rosen’s outsized personality will be dissected thoroughly between now and the April 26 NFL draft. He has been known to speak his mind and ruffle feathers at the same time.

“I’d rather be a lower pick at the right team than a higher at the wrong team,” Rosen said last month.

The Browns can call his bluff and draft him against his will or sell the pick to the highest bidder. Or draft Darnold.

“Whenever I come out to go to the NFL, I’d be honored to play for any team,” Darnold said last week. “Any team that would give me that opportunity to be part of their organization, it would mean the world to me.”

The quarterback-desperate Jets, with the sixth pick, should be heartened because it puts them in play for Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield.

Or they could trade up ahead of the Giants to grab their Broadway Josh or Broadway Sam. Good news at the start of a new year following a year of hell.

There is a pot of gold at the end of the Big Blue rainbow.

GO GETT your next franchise quarterback.
