Trump’s Nuclear Tweets: Pushing N. Korea’s Buttons
I proudly voted for President Trump, but I’m getting very tired of his constant tweets (“Trump to Kim: My button is bigger,” Jan. 3).
His “my button is bigger than yours” tweet directed at Kim Jong-un is childish.
We are facing the possibility of a nuclear war with North Korea. This is not a game. Please act more presidential and stay out of the playground. Stop with the name-calling tweets. It’s making your button look smaller. John Ryan Port Washington
We’re experiencing a repeat of an ironic piece of American history.
In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea, and the United Nations was debating what to do.
The great Gen. Douglas MacArthur later wrote about this period. “Now was the time to recognize what the history of the world has taught from the beginning of time: that timidity breeds conflict, and courage often prevents it,” he wrote.
Apparently, Trump has read this quote some 68 years later. Arthur Messenger Scarsdale
America has seen its share of natural and man-made catastrophes over the past year.
From extreme wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes and bomb cyclones to unstable world leaders ogling each other’s nuclear buttons, our survival becomes more challenging by the day.
In 2018, I fear we could very well see a real-life horror show play out called: “Nuclear Trumpocalypse: Kiss Your Button Goodbye.” Vin Morabito Scranton, Pa.
The president has gone from bragging about his body parts to bragging about his nuclear arsenal, something that could result in a worldwide catastrophe.
It’s absolutely frightening how casually Trump and Kim throw around nuclear threats, almost as if it was a sporting event rather than the possible destruction of mankind. Kenneth Zimmerman Huntington Beach, Calif.
The president’s tweets belittling Kim only exacerbate North Korea’s hatred of the United States.
I implore Trump to please quit with the hostile rhetoric and act like a president. John Lodato Boynton Beach, Fla.
