Teen-slash duo guilty

- By EMILY SAUL

Two men have admitted guilt in the slashing of a teenage exchange student — a case of mistaken identity that left the victim with permanent facial scars.

Wilson Lai, of Queens, and Devon Berkley, of Allentown, Pa., pleaded guilty Monday to charges of first-degree assault in the attack on 16-year-old Jia Jia Liang in December 2015.

Authorities said Berkley, 39, misidentified the Chinese exchange student as Lai’s ex-girlfriend, as Liang was living in the same building as the 14-year-oldintended target.

Berkley, who now faces 18 years behind bars, wore a surgical mask as he sliced Liang twice across the face with a boxcutter and ran off in an attack captured on surveillance video footage.

The 11th-grader was leaving her Whitestone home at about 8:20 a.m. when the hooded man attacked, authorities said. The blooddrenched victim managed to stumble home.

Lai will be sentenced to 19 years in prison when he and Berkley return to court on Feb. 14.

Lai, 26, hired Berkley to stab Lai’s ex because she had dumped him after he had accused her of being unfaithful, prosecutors said.

It took more than 200 stitches to close Liang’s facial and neck wounds.

Lai was caught after he vandalized a car belonging to the 14-year-old’s family — puncturing the tires, smashing eggs on the hood, splashing glue on the vehicle and leaving a note on the windshield admitting he had arranged the knife attack.

The note warned his ex that her “beautiful face” would be next.

“You f--ked with the wrong person,” authorities said the note read.

Lai, who has nine prior arrests, was arrested on charges of rape, assault, criminal sex act, criminal mischief, conspiracy, child endangerment, aggravated harassment and criminal possession of a weapon, cops said.

The rape charge stems from his sexual relationship with the underage girl.
