Russian NRA ‘link’

Feds eye elex $$

The feds are reportedly investigating whether a shady Russian banker linked to the Kremlin illegally funneled cash to the National Rifle Association to help Donald Trump win the presidential election.

FBI investigators are scrutinizing Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank, who is known to be tight with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the McClatchy news service reported Thursday.

It would be illegal for the NRA — which spent $30 million to help elect Trump — to use foreign funds to influence a federal election.

It’s unclear how long the Torshin inquiry has been going on, and McClatchy didn’t specify what, if any, evidence the feds have uncovered.

The revelation came as special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators prepare to interview top former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who reportedly cut a deal to avoid a grand jury.

The NRA did not return requests for comment.

The gun-rights group reported spending a record $55 million on the 2016 elections, including the $30 million for Trump — triple what it devoted to backing Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race.

And most of that money was spent by an arm of the NRA that is not required to disclose its donors, the news service said.

During the campaign, Trump drew heat for suggesting that if Hillary Clinton were elected, gun owners could stop her from appointing liberals to the Supreme Court.

“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks,” Trump said at rally in August 2016. “Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

Torshin has been implicated in money laundering by authorities in Spain, Bloomberg News reported in 2016.

At an NRA meeting in Kentucky in May 2016, Torshin spoke to Donald Trump Jr. during a gala.
