Find the perfect wedding dress to fit and flatter your figure
ALL eyes are on you on your wedding day, so you should wear a gown in which you look and feel beautiful. That means finding a dress that fits and flatters your figure and highlights your assets. “The rules have changed,” says Mark Ingram, owner of Mark Ingram Atelier in Midtown. “No longer do you need an A-line to cover hips, or to avoid strapless and body-hugging styles if you’re curvaceous. Women today are confident and strong and proud of their bodies — wearing a gown that you feel good in and fits you well is what’s most important.” Follow these guidelines to get the right big-day look.
Pear
Do you have curvy hips and thighs like Jennifer Lopez and a slim waist, chest and shoulders? If so, then there’s no doubt that you have a pear-shaped figure. A pearshaped bride may opt for a plunging neckline (remember J.Lo’s green Versace dress) to draw attention to her bodice. Alternatively, she can opt to enhance her curvy hips with a mermaid silhouette, or, for a princess look, choose an A-line or ballgown design that skims over them. To accentuate your slim waist, shop for a gown with embellishments at the waistline. Inspired by Zac Posen’s ready-to-wear collection, the
Truly Zac Posen Horsehair Tier Skirt Wedding Dress
shown here has three draped layers to create a light-as-air voluminous skirt. “This gown from our spring 2018 collection is very flattering on a pear-shaped body type, accentuating the slim waist and upper body while balancing with a full skirt,” says Posen. The fitted bodice, with the designer’s signature seaming, is embellished with hand-placed beaded lace appliques. $1,458, exclusively at David’s Bridal, 751 Sixth Ave.; DavidsBridal.com
