Prez’s tribute to first responders

-

President Trump visited a Florida hospital and sheriff ’s office Friday night, thanking first responders for their heroic efforts in the moments after the school-shooting massacre.

At Broward Health North Hospital in Pompano Beach, Trump and First Lady Melania met with staff who treated students and school employees wounded Wednesday at nearby Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS.

“Very sad, something like this would happen,” Trump told reporters as he shook hands with Dr. Igor Nichiporenko. “But the job the doctors did, the nurses, the hospital, first responders, law enforcement — really incredible.”

Trump then praised the speed at which first responders were able to get the injured to the hospital.

“They got the victims over to the hospital was like record speed — one case 20 minutes, in one case 19 minutes from the time of the shots,” he said. “It’s an incredible thing.”

Trump did not answer a reporter’s question about whether Congress needed to pass tougher gun-control legislation.

The president and first lady then met with authorities at the Broward County Sheriff ’s Office in Fort Lauderdale before heading to their beachside resort of Mar-a-Lago.

“What a great job you’ve done, and we appreciate it very much,” Trump said. “Everybody is talking about it. I hope you are getting the credit for it because believe me, you deserve it. The job you have done is unparalleled.”
