YANKEES NOTES

-

While Stanton has eight years in the big leagues and Judge has one full season, based on the numbers Boone can’t go wrong either way.

In 28 games a year ago as the No. 2 hitter, Judge batted .327 (32-for-98) with 13 homers, 29 RBIs and a 1.291 OPS. For his career, Stanton is a .287 hitter with 47 homers, 97 RBIs and a 1.065 OPS in 111 games batting second.

While Brett Gardner will lead off against right-handed pitchers, Boone could go Judge, Greg Bird, Stanton, Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez in order to go left-right-left-right-leftright through the first six spots in the lineup, though Sanchez is considered the Yankees’ best all-around hitter.

Clint Frazier’s hair is noticeably shorter this season — and that’s not the only difference the outfielder said he has made.

“I think the biggest thing that was harmful for me coming here was that my whole life, I’ve been used to the spotlight being on me and when it’s not how was I reacting?” Frazier said on Friday. “It looked like I was acting out in a way and trying not to be a part of group. I was just trying to be myself. I stepped on people’s toes. I’m not going to do that this year.”

Nevertheless, Frazier’s confidence remains, as he showed in a conversation with his new manager.

“I made the comment to Aaron Boone today, I said I could play center field,” Frazier said. “I said, ‘Don’t get too caught up in the advance metrics. Just use the eye test. You’ve got some throw-back in you, so just give me the chance.’ He shook his head, so I don’t know what he meant. I’ve played more center in my career than the corners. I know I can go out there and catch the ball. … I think nowadays, if you hit, you play.”
