Trolling American Voters: Russia’s Fake-News Farms

THE ISSUE: Robert Mueller’s indictment of 13 Russian nationals for interfering in the 2016 election.

-

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictment stated unequivocally that the Russians meddled in our elections (“What Mueller Didn’t Say,” Editorial, Feb. 13).

The tactics they used were unbelievable — duping so many and turning Americans against one another.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein also stated that “no American was involved.” It was quite an eye-opener after many long months of investigating.

It’s too bad that some Democrats are still looking for a “gotcha moment” to pin on President Trump. If they can’t even trust the Mueller results, where do we go from here? Sam King Manhattan

Trump is not vindicated yet. The latest Mueller indictment is only part of the overall probe. There could be more indictments to come.

It took a year to determine that there was no collusion with Russia on the part of the Trump campaign.

I’m sure the left will remain silent on this discovery, hoping to dig up more dirt on President Trump.

I wonder if CNN and MSNBC will finally admit they erred big time. I highly doubt it. They still can’t accept that Hillary Clinton lost. Ronnie Zajicek Cortlandt Manor

So Mueller and the FBI turned the country and the presidency topsyturvy for 18 months, found no collusion by the president, but indicted 13 Russian nationals (and three companies), who will never be extradited or face an American jury.

We helped President Mohammed Morsi in Egypt, who supported the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s not like we’ve never meddled in foreign elections. Rolly Lessin Staten Island

The Mueller indictment of those 13 Russians does not exonerate the president. Mueller is not going to play all his cards in one hand.

This investigation is building, block by block, and will continue to do so until Gen. Michael Flynn, former Trump advisers Paul Manafort and George Papadopoulos and others provide testimony.

Does anyone think Flynn engaged the Russians as he did without Trump knowing?

The chickens eventually will come home to roost. Trump will never complete a full term. Lou Maione Manhattan

Russian President Vladimir Putin was clearly trying to cause as much discord as he could, and he succeeded because of a very partisan environment.

Some in the media con- sider the Russian Facebook ads to be a serious threat to democracy, but they don’t feel the same about the Steele dossier, produced by a British national, which prompted the FBI to seek a FISA warrant against a Trump adviser — even though it contained disinformation.

It’s precisely that kind of partisan, myopic mindset that Putin was able to take advantage of and will continue to do so. Gary Mottola Brooklyn

Can someone please ask Mitt Romney if President Barack Obama is still laughing off the modern-day Russian threat?

Thanks to Obama’s donothing policy with Russia, we have had our hands full — whether it’s Russian interference with American voting or its aggression in Europe.

Thanks, Obama (and former Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes), for being completely out of touch.

I hope he remembers saying that “the Cold War is long over.” Justin Martin Manchester Center, Vt.

Forgive me for not jumping for joy, like the Democrats. It seems they couldn’t be happier that Mueller finally indicted Russians.

It doesn’t matter that Moscow began targeting the United States back in 2014, long before Trump decided to run.

I’m sure the Russians and others (pick a country) have been trying to interfere in our elections for years. With the rise of social media, it just got easier. Bret Wallach Glen Cove
