After strong showing, Greiss placed on IR

In the midst of the toughest season of his career, Thomas Greiss had finally showed a glimpse of his old form with a 45-save shutout in Carolina on Friday.

The Islanders goalie will have to wait to build on that performance.

Greiss was placed on injured reserve Monday, retroactive to Friday, with a lower-body injury he sustained during the 3-0 win over the Hurricanes.

“I don’t suspect it’s going to be a huge amount of time, but I don’t want to speak out of turn,” coach Doug Weight said before the Islanders fell to the Wild 5-3 at Barclays Center. “Certainly lowerbody injuries for goalies are a little tougher to decipher. … Hopefully he can take that energy he had and that feeling and get back quick.”

Christopher Gibson was recalled on an emergency basis from AHL Bridgeport. Jaroslav Halak was back in net against the Wild.

The 25-year-old Gibson arrived for his third NHL stint with a hot hand, having posted back-to-back shutouts to lower his goals against average to 2.31.

“We know Gibby well. He’s a real good kid, wellliked in the room and works really hard,” Weight said.

In his previous 11 games before Friday (dating to Dec. 1), Greiss had allowed 45 goals while Halak had largely taken over the reins.

“To get the result he got in Carolina and the way [Greiss] did it, it’s disappointing that he’s out, but certainly Jaro’s been in a bit of a zone,” Weight said.

Tanner Fritz will need to go watch the film to finally see his first NHL goal.

“Actually I didn’t even see it go in, to be honest with you,” he said after scoring in his 14th career game. “I just shot through the guy and everyone started cheering, so I was like, ‘Oh my God, it must have went in.’ ”

Playing against his hometown team, Anders Lee notched his 30th goal of the year with a deflection in the second period, a mark he has now reached in back-to-back seasons.

Dating to Jan. 1, 2017, the Edina, Minn., native is tied with Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin and Brad Marchand for second place with 50 goals. Only Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov (58) has more.

After the game, Lee hosted his second annual Kancer Jam fundraiser at Barclays Center, with proceeds going to provide relief and support to families of children battling cancer.
