NRA boss shoots off big mouth

- Mark Moore

In a defiant call to arms, the head of the National Rifle Association on Thursday blasted gun-control advocates, the media, the FBI and the mental-health system — everything but lax gun laws — in the wake of the Florida high-school massacre.

“The whole idea from some of our opponents that armed security makes us less safe is completely ridiculous. If that’s true . . . let’s just go ahead and remove it from everywhere. Let’s remove it from the White House, from Capitol Hill, and remove it from all of Hollywood,” Wayne LaPierre (inset) told the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Md.

Finally speaking more than a week after an AR-15 was used to murder 14 high-school students and three educators, LaPierre accused Democrats — including Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo — and the news media of ignoring the safety of school kids.

“If they truly cared, what they would do is protect them,” he said. “Their goal is to eliminate the Second Amendment”

Cuomo replied that when the NRA is attacking you, “you know you’re doing something right.”

Hours after LaPierre’s speech, Enterprise Holdings Inc. — parent company of Enterprise, Alamo and National rental cars — announced that it is ending a discount program for NRA members.

Also, First National Bank of Omaha said it will stop issuing NRAbranded Visa cards.
