Mo’Nique protests too much

-

WHOOPI Goldberg appears to have had enough of Mo’Nique’s beef with Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels and Tyler Perry. On Thursday, Mo’Nique brought up an old grievance on ABC’s “The View,” complaining — as she has in the past — that she was punished by Daniels, Perry and Winfrey for refusing to promote the 2009 drama “Precious” overseas. But Golderg — who’s won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony (in other words, she’s an EGOT) and co-hosts “The View” — was having none of her complaining. Addressing Mo’Nique, Goldberg said, “I’m going to stop you because contractually, when you make a movie, regardless of who you sign the deal with, your job is to go and promote said movie.” Goldberg added, “And we’ve had this conversation, and I said if you had called me, I could’ve schooled you on what was expected.” Nonetheless, Mo’Nique — who was on the show to talk about her boycott of Netflix over unequal pay — said, “What Tyler Perry showed me, Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and [“Precious” studio] Lionsgate is that, ‘ When you don’t do what we ask you to do, we will take your livelihood.’ ” The comedian and actress went on, “So for eight years my family has suffered and my career has suffered because I would not allow those entities to bully me. And because I did not allow the bullying to happen, this is what I sit in.” Mo’Nique claims that the group stopped her from getting work as payback for the promo spat. Reps for Daniels and Perry declined to comment, and reps for Winfrey didn’t get back to us.
