JUSTIN'S 'BOLLY' COSPLAY
Namas-tacky! PM’s get-ups wear thin in India
His outfits are “too Indian — even for an Indian.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is getting blasted by people from India for the “over-the-top” and “tone-deaf” wardrobe choices he made this week on a diplomatic trip to the country with his family.
“Is it just me or is this choreographed cuteness all just a bit much now?” Omar Abdullah, a former chief minister of the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir, tweeted with photos of Trudeau, first lady Sophie Grégoire and their three kids decked out traditional Indian garb.
“Also FYI we Indians don’t dress like this every day sir, not even in Bollywood,” he added.
Abdullah was among a chorus of Twitter users, officials and local media outlets skewering Trudeau’s “tacky” duds Wednesday.
“We understand that the Trudeaus do not understand Indian clothing as well as Indian dignitaries do, but for someone who’s been fond of wearing Indian kurtas even back home, it’s not wrong to expect a touch of class,” wrote India Today magazine, referring to the loose, collarless shirt commonly worn in South Asia.
The Outlook India newsmagazine dubbed Trudeau’s wardrobe “too Indian — even for an Indian.”
New Delhibased reporter Shivam Vij quipped, “Even if Trudeau was an Indian groom at his wedding reception, he’d look ri-ridiculously overdressed.”
