Queens GOPer eyes lt. go ov run
Queens City Councilman Eric Ulrich is “seriously considering” a bid for lieutenant governor against Gov. Cuomo’s running mate, Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul.
“Andrew Cuomo has just got to go and I’m going to do whatever I can to make that happen,” said the 33-yearold Republican (right), adding he doesn’t know much about Hochul except she’s “dedicated to advancing Andrew’s vision.”
Ulrich said he has been approached by GOP gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. John DeFrancisco of Syracuse, and another contender, although he declined to say who.
Former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra and Joseph Holland, a former state senator and housing commissioner under then-Gov. George Pataki, are also in the running.
Ulrich will meet with DeFrancisco in Queens Monday evening.
“Eric is an outstanding public servant, and a proven vote getter in New York City,” said DeFrancisco campaign manager Michaelel Lawler. “He would make a great candidatedidate for lieutenant governor, as wouldld others.”
Ulrich plans to make a decision about running by early April. The GOP is expectedd to pick a gubernato-gubernatorial candidate at aa MayMay convention.
Hochul alreadyy faces a Democratic-Democraticprimary challengenge from City Coun-Councilman Jumaanee Williams of Brooklyn.
