Stringer: Give NYCHA city $urplus

- Michael el Gartland d

City Comptroller Scott Stringer wants to use millions of dollars from the Battery Park City Authority to help fund the New York Housing Authority’s crumbling infrastructure.

But there’s one catch: Mayor de Blasio would have to sign off on the deal, said Stringer (right), who floated the idea during an AM 970 radio interview with John Catsimatidis that aired Sunday.

“One of the proposals that I have is to put $40 million in annual sur- pluses the city receives from the Battery Park City Authority — give it to NYCHA to address their capital needs,” Stringer said.

“Let’s create a 10-year plan, $400 million — that money could be bonded. NYCHA’s crumbling before our eyes, and we have to step up.”

The authority’s surplus now goes to the city to pay mostly for private affordable housing expenses. Stringer first recommended in 2014 the money be directed to NYCHA.

Putting funds toward NYCHA would require Stringer, tringer, de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo all sign off.

“I have to convincence thethe mayor.mayor. He’s the third vote,” Stringerringer said.

But getting Hizzonerizzoner on board doesn’t seem likely:kely: “Pitting one group of low-incomeome New Yorkers against another will not help anyone,” said de Blasio spokeswoman Olivia Lapeyrolerie.
