“GET Out” was the big winner at the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday.

Jordan Peele collected the Best Director prize and then returned to the stage with the cast to accept the Best Feature honor, a day before the horror sensation goes up for multiple Academy Awards.

Peele said, “I sat down and smoked a little weed and tried to write a mindbending horror film.” He shot the movie in just 23 days for $4.5 million. It has grossed $255 million worldwide.

On a more serious note, Peele added, “We are in the beginning of a renaissance right now, where stories from the outsider, stories from the people in this room, the same stories that independent filmmakers have been telling for years are being honored and recognized and celebrated.”

Frances McDormand won Best Female Lead for her role in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

Proudly showing off that she was wearing fluffy bedroom slippers, McDormand said, “I continue to be amazed that you let me get to the microphone. What are you crazy? Do you know how hard it’s been not to swear over the last couple of months? Because this awards convention goes on for f--king forever.”

McDormand’s co-star Sam Rockwell was named Best Supporting Male, while Allison Janney claimed the Best Supporting Female award for “I, Tonya”

Timothee Chalamet landed the Best Male Lead award for “Call Me By Your Name” and Greta Gerwig took home Best Screenplay for her directoral debut, “Lady Bird.”
