Don roasts himself at journos' DC dinner

- By MARISA SCHULTZ and MARY KAY LINGE

President Trump proved he actually does have a sense of humor about himself by joking at Saturday night’s annual Gridiron Club dinner in Washington about a meeting with Kim Jung-un.

Trump said he’d talk with Kim, but the North Korean dictator would be facing “the risk of dealing with a madman.’’

Trump began his remarks by saying it was “an honor to be at the dinner,’’ and telling the audience of journalists that they’re “really quality people.” Then he went for laughs. “Another calm week at the White House,” he said, “we finally have it running like a finetuned machine.”

He also joked about family members work- ing in his administration. Trump said he was late to the dinner, because his son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, whose security level was downgraded recently, “couldn’t get through security.”

“Ivanka, you’ve got to do something!” Trump said, referring to his daughter and her husband, who were both in the audience.

The president said he discussed his speech with the “funniest” people in the White House, including Vice President Mike Pence.

He quipped that Pence begins every day asking, “Is he impeached yet?” His next target: Jeff Sessions. “I offered him a ride over and he recused himself,” said Trump, who has criticized the attorney general for removing himself from the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.
