Mudiay will continue as Knicks starting PG

- By MARC BERMAN

PORTLAND, Ore. — Emmanuel Mudiay is regressing as the new starting point guard but Jeff Hornacek is not ready to bag this audition. Not yet, anyway.

Hornacek will continue to keep rookie Frank Nti- likina and Trey Burke coming off the bench, but the Knicks coach added that has no bearing on next season’s starting point-guard situation.

Again brutal in Sunday’s loss in Sacramento, Mudiay was benched for the game’s final 20 minutes. He went scoreless, missing all six of his shots. Burke was the point guard when the Knicks made their comeback from a 19point deficit to forge a tie.

“You got to forget about that night,’’ Mudiay said. “It was a bad night. One thing about the NBA that is good you got a lot of games. So you can make it up tomorrow.’’

After practice Monday at the University of Portland, Hornacek huddled with Mudiay for several minutes on the court, again talking technique. Mudiay is shooting 35.4 percent in eight games as a Knick — 13.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

➤ The Knicks and Chase will hold the first-ever Knicks 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on March 31 inside the Garden prior to the team’s First Responders Night game against the Pistons. The climb will be open to 343 participants, who will have the opportunity to climb the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, paying tribute to the 343 FDNY members who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
