Rex is back from Africa a day early

- Mark Moore

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who has had to cancel several events last week because of illness, cut short his first diplomatic trip to Africa on Monday to deal with pressing matters in Washington.

“Due to demands in the secretary’s schedule, he is returning to the US one day early after concluding official meetings in Chad and Nigeria,” Undersecretary of State Steve Goldstein told reporters.

Tillerson spent just a few hours in Nigeria Monday instead of staying overnight.

Tillerson, 65, had to cancel events in Kenya on Saturday because he became ill after working on North Korea and other matters for two days without sleep, Goldstein said .

The top US diplomat arrived for a five-country tour of Africa Friday, a day after President Trump said he would meet with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.
