$1B year for Lyft

- Nicolas Vega

Lyft, the popular ride-hailing app, announced Monday that it raked in more than $1 billion in revenue in 2017.

The milestone represents a 168 percent year-over-year growth for the company that has seen itself turn into Uber’s chief rival.

Lyft said that it is doing more than 10 million rides per week, and last year expanded to Toronto — its first move outside the US.

The privately held San Francisco company did not disclose how much it lost in 2017 — but Chief Financial Officer Brian Roberts said it “achieved record market share levels nationwide.”

Lyft opened its first New York office last year. The 11,000-square-foot office, with room for more than 80 employees, houses members of its engineering team, as well as marketing and sales.
