Don bragsg about some gun reform

‘Not much support’ for age limits

- Mark Moore

President Trump talked up his new measures to improve school safety on Monday, but said he held off raising the age for buying firearms because it isn’t getting “much political support.”

“On 18 to 21 Age Limits, watching court cases and rulings before acting. States are making this decision. Things are moving rapidly on this, but not much political support (to put it mildly),” he tweeted.

The president unveiled his recommendations to enhance school security following a series of listening sessions he has held since last month’s massacre of 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS in Florida by a former student carrying an AR-15 assault rifle.

During one of those meetings, Trump called for raising the minimum age to buy firearms from 18 to 21, a proposal strongly opposed by the National Rifle Association.

The White House denied Trump balked because of pressure from the gun group, saying age limits are still being considered.

“What he is pushing forward are things that can be immediately accomplished,” said Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “Right now, the president’s primary focus is pushing through things that have broad bipartisan support.”

Meanwhile, Trump reiterated in another tweet proposals he thinks will enhance school safety, including arming teachers, a measure the NRA supports.

“Very strong improvement and strengthening of background checks will be fully backed by White House,” he tweeted. “Legislation moving forward. Bump Stocks will soon be out. Highly trained expert teachers will be allowed to conceal carry, subject to State Law. Armed guards OK, deterrent!”
