Two injured in latest Austin bombing
Two people were injured in another suspicious explosion in Austin, Texas, on Sunday night — just hours after police issued an urgent appeal asking the “person or persons” behind a deadly string of bombings to “reach out” to them.
The latest victims were rushed to a hospital in serious condition but were expected to survive.
Details about the incident were not immediately released, and it was unclear if the explosion was the result of a package bomb, as was the case in three other recent blasts.
Sources told ABC News that the FBI and ATF were investigating.
Sunday’s blast happened at around 8:30 p.m., shortly after Police Chief Brian Manley called on the bomber or bombers to contact his office.
“We hope this person or persons is watching,” Manley said at a press conference. “We hope you will reach out to us before anyone else is injured or anyone else is killed.”
Investigators believe the earlier attacks are linked because of similarities in the materials used in the packages and the way they were left.
Each bomb was reportedly placed inside a plain cardboard box with standard shipping labels. They were left on three Austin doorsteps on March 2 and March 12. Two people have been killed in the attacks and two others injured.
“[We’re] not ruling hate out at this time,” Manley said Sunday, noting that all of the victims were either black or Hispanic.
The FBI’s San Antonio office is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the suspected bomber or bombers.
