I guess the old saying “the fish rots from the head down” does not apply to city officials (“Teflon Shola,” Editorial, Jan. 24).
Shola Olatoye, the head of NYCHA, lied to the federal government about lead inspections of apartments in public housing.
Yet the mayor says she’s doing a great job under the circumstances. Public Advocate Letitia James has called for her resignation, but the mayor instead got rid of NYCHA’s No. 2 person.
Just what does No. 1 have on the mayor? Maybe the federal government should investigate these public officials once more and be a little more thorough. This whole thing stinks. Kim Cody Whitestone There is a better chance of pigs learning to fly than Mayor de Blasio firing Olatoye.
The ability to fire a woman of color is not in his tool chest. He defended his wife’s aide Rachel Noerdlinger until public pressure forced her to resign in 2014.
Olatoye’s shortcomings involve life-threatening situations in addition to questions about the integrity of the agency when it filed false reports regarding lead-paint inspections.
