NBA: LeBron, Love sneak Cavs past Raptors
LeBron James scored 35 points and added 17 assists, his last setting up a late a 3-pointer by Kevin Love (23 points), and the undermanned Cavaliers ended the Raptors’ ninegame road winning streak with a 132-129 victory on Wednesday night in Cleveland. The Cavs were missing five players. In Milwaukee, the Bucks lost All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo to a right ankle sprain late in the first half of a 127-120 loss to the Clippers.
NCAA: Padgett out as Louisville hoops coach
Louisville has let David Padgett go after one season as the Cardinals’ interim men’s basketball coach. Padgett went 22-14 after being elevated from second-year Louisville assistant last fall after the school placed coach Rick Pitino on leave following its acknowledgement that it was being investigated in a federal corruption probe.
ETC.: Big names fall early at Dell Match Play
Former U.S. Amateur champion Peter Uihlein built a 5-up lead against Rory McIlroy and held off his late charge in a 2-and-1 victory at the Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas. Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson were also eliminated in the opening round. In Key Biscayne, Fla., Serena Williams lost in the first round of the Miami Open, still rusty in her return from pregnancy and unable to overcome Indians Wells champion Naomi Osaka, who won, 6-3, 6-2. The baseball Hall of Fame said it no longer will use the Indians’ Chief Wahoo logo for plaques of new members.
