Elton’s a ‘crock’ star: Stewart

-

FORGET Trump and Biden’s fisticuffs. The only septuagenarian sparring we care about is between Rod Stewart and Elton John. The world mourned when the “Rocket Man” singer — in his typically understated style — announced in January that his next tour would be his last. But Stewart wouldn’t swallow it. John’s longtime pal and rival told the Sun that the so-called retirement “stinks of selling tickets” for the 300-date “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour. The “Maggie May” star added, “It’s dishonest. It’s not rock ’n’ roll.” (An accusation that might also, in all fairness, be leveled at the comfortable-looking sneakers that Stewart has lately been wearing around town.) The paper gloriously revealed that John affectionately refers to Stewart as “Phyllis” and Stewart calls him “Sharon.” Stewart told the Sun that, after hearing that John had announced he is hanging up his crystal-encrusted jacket, “I did e-mail her and [I] said, ‘What, again, dear?’ And didn’t hear anything back.” The Scottish-identifying rock god said of his own retirement plans, “I’ve never spoken about retirement, and if I do retire I won’t make an announcement. I’ll just fade away. I don’t think this big deal, ‘I’m going to retire’ . . . it stinks of selling tickets.” John said of his farewell tour, “I don’t want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang . . . It’ll be the most produced, fantastic show I’ve ever done.”
