Boss smeared me as alcoholic

- Julia Marsh h

An ousted merchandise manager with the online-shopping company Rue La La says her ex-employer discriminated against her for the “disability” of alcoholism — but she insists she’s no lush.

Megan Davis has filed a $5 million lawsuit against the e-commerce Web site, claiming she was unfairly fired in December after refusing treatment.

Davis admits to “social drinking” with colleagues, including at an August 2017 dinner in Los Angeles while at a trade show. When she returned to New York, an assistant sunglasses buyer reported Davis (right) to HR for being “intoxicated” and “acting inappropriately” at the dinner, according to her Manhattan Supreme Court suit.

Davis “had no such recollection” of that behavior. Still, she “reluctantly agreed that she may have a problem with alcohol” because she feared for her job, her suit says.

“Medical providers” assured Davis she wasn’t an alcoholic, yet her co- workers treated her like “she was s disabled,” court papers state.

In October, the company’s hu- man-resources director told her she’d noticed “red flags,” including “grammatical errors” in an e- mail and “Davis reportedly trip- ping while walking outside,” the e suit says. She was forced out affter refusing to enter a 60-day y treatment program.

Rue La La did not return a mes- sage for comment.
