Xi & Don talk Kim
President Trump said Wednesday that Chinese leader Xi Jinping notified him his surprise summit with Kim Jong-un was a success — and that the North Korean despot is looking forward to meeting him.
“Received message last night from XI JINPING of China that his meeting with KIM JONG UN went very well and that KIM looks forward to his meeting with me,” Trump said in an early morning tweet.
“In the meantime, and unfortunately, maximum sanctions and pressure must be maintained at all cost!”
The president said in a separate tweet that his administration could achieve what predecessors deemed impossible.
“For years and through many administrations, everyone said that peace and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula was not even a small possibility,” he wrote.
“Now there is a good chance that Kim Jong Un will do what is right for his people and for humanity. Look forward to our meeting!”
Trump’s tweets followed confirmation of reports that Kim (top right) had traveled in his mysterious armored train to Beijing, where he was given a lavish welcome by Xi (top left) during his first trip outside North Korea since taking power in 2011.
Meanwhile on Thursday on the Korean Peninsula, high-level officials from the North and South met in a small border village for talks in advance to their interKorean summit in April.
