Trump: DACA is dead

Rips Mex, Dems

- By MARK MOORE

President Trump on Sunday declared that there would be “NO MORE DACA DEAL!” while blasting what he called “caravans” of Mexicans heading to the US border.

“Border Patrol Agents are not allowed to properly do their job at the Border because of ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws like Catch & Release,” Trump tweeted. “Getting more dangerous. ‘Caravans’ coming. Republicans must go to Nuclear Option to pass tough laws NOW. NO MORE DACA DEAL!”

The “nuclear option”— which refers to getting rid of the filibuster — would allow the GOP-controlled Senate to pass most legislation with a simple majority of 51 votes, instead of 60.

Trump warned that Mexican immigrants want to benefit from the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects from deportation young immigrants brought illegally to the United States as children.

But DACA applies only to immigrants who arrived in the US by 2007.

“These big flows of people are all trying to take advan- tage of DACA,” the president wrote.

Asked about DACA as he arrived with First Lady Melania Trump and daughter Tiffany at the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Trump restated his claim that new immigrants want to use the policy, even though they can’t.

“Mexico has got to help us at the border. And a lot of people are coming in because they want to take advantage of DACA,” he said. “They had a great chance, the Democrats blew it.”

Trump’s tweetstorm was apparently a reaction to a report on “Fox & Friends” that Mexico is allowing a parade of Central American immigrants to travel unimpeded to the US border.

Mexico’s foreign minister, Luis Videgaray, took issue with Trump’s accusation that Mexico was not helping on illegal immigration.

“Every day, Mexico and the US work together on migration throughout the region,” he tweeted. “Facts clearly reflect this. An inaccurate news report should not serve to question this strong cooperation. Upholding human dignity and rights is not at odds with the rule of law. Happy Easter.”
