WHEN Scott Braun, the play-by-play man on the Mets-Phillies game, began the exclusive Facebook stream Wednesday, he announced, “We are making baseball history in the broadcast world.”

Initially, it felt like they were just annoying fans, who either didn’t have a Facebook login, didn’t want to give the social media behemoth any informatio­n or, when connected, couldn’t figure out how to sweep away the comments and emojis to watch their beloved Mets.

With Wednesday’s game unavailabl­e on SNY or any other television network, fans who wanted to see it had no choice but to log into Facebook for the first foray on the exclusive 25-game, Wednesday afternoon package on the social network.

It will likely be the only game for which New York teams will be on Facebook this season, according to a source. There are all kinds of rules about how teams are chosen for national exclusive games, but the Yankees’ allotment is expected to be swallowed up by ESPN, FOX and TBS, while the Mets likely will be one and done.

The reason MLB chose to make the Facebook deal exclusive is because that is the only way to make it resonate. Did you know Facebook and MLB had a Friday night package last year? You probably didn’t, because it wasn’t exclusive and the numbers were low.
