Heckuva job, Pruie!

- Bob Fredericks

President Trump on Friday praised embattled EPA chief Scott Pruitt, denied thinking about naming him attorney general to replace Jeff Sessions and blamed the “fake news media” for Pruitt’s mounting ethical woes.

“Do you believe that the Fake News Media is pushing hard on a story that I am going to replace A.G. Jeff Sessions with EPA Chief Scott Pruitt, who is doing a great job but is TOTALLY under siege?” Trump tweeted at 10:46 a.m.

“Do people really believe this stuff ? So much of the media is dishonest and corrupt!”

CNN reported Thursday that Trump considered replacing Sessions with Pruitt as recently as this week.

Chief of Staff John Kelly told Trump last week that Pruitt (inset) had to go — but the president has so far ignored his advice as he increasingly makes decisions without input from advis- ers, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Asked about the report, administration spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “No one other than the president has the authority to hire and fire. The president feels that the administrator has done a good job at EPA.”

Pruitt — a probusiness conservative who has rolled back a number of environmental regulations — is embroiled in controversies over his lavish spending and defections by top staffers. And the controversy over his $50-a-night rental of a bedroom in a DC condo from a lobbyist took a strange turn Friday after it was reported the owners had to change the locks to get him out.

Owners Vicki and Steve Hart told Pruitt in July that they had plans to rent his room to another tenant and then changed the locks when he was not there, Politico reported.
