Bigotry in the Assembly: Richardson’s Hateful Barbs

-

Assemblywoman Diana Richardson reportedly had the audacity in a public forum to blame gentrification on Jewish people (“B’klyn pol ‘blames Jews,’ ” April 5).

Imagine if this was said by a white person. There would be legitimate demands for that person to be fired. Is bigotry OK when it’s coming from a person of color?

According to The Post, Richardson engaged in a 50-minute rant at a community-board meeting, where she faulted Jews for gentrification in her district.

Later, she had the nerve to say if “I offended anyone in any way, I sincerely apologize,” adding, “It was never my intention to insult or hurt anyone.” What did Richardson think her intemperate remarks would do if not hurt?

I’m certain the assemblywoman does not speak for the overwhelming majority of people in her district.

Someone should explain to her (since I’m sure she doesn’t realize it) that the correct thing to do under the circumstances is to resign her position at once. There is no place for a racist in public office.

Please remind Richardson, as she maligns the Jewish people, of the countless American-- Jewish soldiers who died to afford her the freedom to condemn their people.

Her abuse and bigotry are an insult to my husband’s MIA/POW 94th Infantry service that gave her security today.

Shame on her and all of the bigots we see today.

Assemblywoman Richardson’s alleged rant against “Jewish people” as well as her calling state Sen. Simcha Felder “the Jewish senator from southern Brooklyn” are totally consistent with the pantheon of antiSemites who have taken over the Democratic Party.

Richardson fits right in with Rep. Keith Ellison and Women’s March cochairs Tamika Mallory, Carmen Perez and Linda Sarsour.
