GM leaves Noah options open

- By HOWIE KUSSOY

At least one player has no issue with Jeff Hornacek’s firing.

Joakim Noah has been in exile from the Knicks since having a heated verbal altercation with the former coach Jan. 25, but the exit of Hornacek could open the door for reconciliation between the former All-Star and the franchise.

Noah, who has played in a total of 53 games in two years with the Knicks, still has two years and $37.8 million remaining on the contract he was offered by former team president Phil Jackson. This past season, Noah appeared in just seven games, averaging 5.7 minutes off the bench.

“We’re gonna visit the Joakim situation again as we go through the offseason,” general manager Scott Perry said Thursday. “We won’t take any options off the table for that matter.”

For now, Noah remains on an island. When management alerted the players of Hornacek’s removal, Noah was not notified.

“I had not,” Perry said. “But I will.”

Though Noah outlasted Hornacek, the 33-year-old may not make it to next season.

The Knicks could waive him via the stretch provision on Sept. 1, which will free at least $12 million of the team’s cap space in the summer of 2019. Noah could also be traded.

Or, perhaps, Hornacek’s departure could result in Noah’s unlikely return.

“A mutual decision was made, by both us and Joakim, to be away for the rest of the season, but as we move forward through the summer, there’s a number of options in terms of dealing with Joakim,” Perry said. “We won’t take any of those options off the table.”
