2016’s Election Games: Comey’s Calculated Reveal
Former FBI Director James Comey said he decided to announce the reopening of Hillary Clinton’s e-mail investigation “out of concern about making her an illegitimate president,” and that he might have handled it differently if Clinton’s odds of losing the election were greater (“Me & The Don,” April 13).
Anyone concerned about the integrity of our elections should be appalled by Comey’s admission of bias.
Whether Democrat, Republican or independent, every voter should be distressed that the former FBI director’s decisions were politically motivated. Jack Weinberg Manhattan
President Trump’s vitriol for Comey is interesting given that Comey’s questionable decisions related to Clinton’s e-mail investigation may well have been the final factor in Trump’s razor-thin Electoral College victory.
My deeply held belief is that Trump’s campaign was likely intended as a way for a desperate, aging playboy with a failing brand, who was the butt of late-night jokes, to get back on the front pages and gain a little respectability that he would skillfully exchange for more income.
But Comey’s fumbling decisions turned a presidential prank into the November 2016 cataclysm. Larry Lobert Grosse Point Park, Mich.
Comey should not be lauded by anyone for his self-aggrandizing book. He should do the world a favor and disappear into oblivion.
Every penny he makes off this book is a step toward the destruction of the country I love so much. People: Please start paying attention to the bigger picture. Jean Cole Juno Beach, Fla.
Comey’s statement that he might not have announced the reopening of the email probe if he had known how close the election was just proves that his choices were political. This is not the right way to run the FBI. Bob Robustelli Stamford, Conn.
To paraphrase James Comey, “That’s it?”
All this build-up to his book, and it turned out to be nothing more than name-calling. Rich Codey, Manhattan
Comey is another hack writing a book about Trump. I was always brought up to respect the office of the president.
He said Trump behaved like a Mafia boss. Please. Comey and his former department have outdone the Mafia. Shame on him for doing anything for a buck. Philip Vallone Ossining
