MLB: Ohtani start postponed by frosty temps

-

Shohei Ohtani’s third major league start will be pushed back to Tuesday as the Angels game Sunday against the Royals was postponed. The Japanese star will pitch against the Red Sox when the Angels will open a six-game homestand in Anaheim.

In Houston, Bartolo Colon took a perfect game into the eighth inning, where he would give up a walk, a hit and an earned run before the Rangers finally outlasted the Astros 3-1 in 10 innings. The Astros’ Justin Verlander hung with Colon, striking out 11 and only allowing one hit, a home run to Robinson Chirinos, in eight innings.

In St. Petersburg, Fla., Aaron Altherr hit a three-run homer, Scott Kingery had a three-run double and Philadelphia won its sixth in a row, beating the Rays 10-4.

Clayton Kershaw struck out 12 and pitched two-hit ball over seven innings and the Dodgers ended an 11-game losing streak against Arizona in the regular season, beating the visiting Diamondbacks 7-2.

In Boston, Andrew Benintendi got three hits and the Red Sox extended the best start in their 118-year history, beating the Orioles 3-1 at frigid Fenway Park.

The series was supposed to last four games, but the traditional Patriots’ Day game scheduled for Monday at 11:05 a.m. was postponed due to a forecast that calls for heavy rain throughout the day.

In Washington, Ian Desmond hit a tiebreaking, twoout homer in the ninth inning against his former team,

Charlie Blackmon drove in three runs and the Rockies rallied to beat the Nationals 6-5.
