Another washout no issue for arms

DETROIT — The Yankees’ “Wet & Cold Tour’’ that started in Boston and had two dates in Comerica Park against the Tigers postponed rows into The Bronx on Monday, when more rain is in the forecast.

After Saturday’s matinee at Comerica Park was rained out, it was scheduled for a day-night doubleheader on Sunday. At 11 a.m. the first game was postponed and early in the afternoon the second one was called off.

The makeup doubleheader is June 4, when the teams will play a split-gate twinbill on the same date MLB holds the beginning of its draft. Because of the draft, the Tigers and Yankees had to wait for commissioner Rob Manfred to bless the rescheduling. There are only three West Coast games scheduled for that date as to not conflict with the draft.

Yankee player representative David Robertson said a straight doubleheader would have been better for the Yankees, but trading the split for the date worked.

“We got the date that works for us,’’ said Robertson, who didn’t want the games played late in the season.

The Yankees play a day game in Baltimore on June 3 and a night in game in Toronto on June 5.

Aaron Boone echoed Robertson’s comments.

“I am glad we got it to the date we got it,’’ Boone said. “It kind of worked best for us. Grateful for everyone who was involved.’’

Because none of his pitchers have worked in a game since Friday night’s 8-6 win over the Tigers, pitching coach Larry Rothschild was asked if the inactivity provided a challenge. And with a 50 percent chance of rain for first pitch, according to weather.com, on Monday against the Marlins at Yankee Stadium, the rust could begin to build.

“They have been throwing a lot. Right now that is not a big thing. With the facilities, they have mounds underneath,’’ Rothschild said. “You start pushing pitchers back and routines change. That is something you would be concerned about.’’

Luis Severino is scheduled to start Monday and Masahiro Tanaka on Tuesday. They each will be working on five days’ rest.
