Marshall to Dez: No room for you

- By JACLYN HENDRICKS

There’s room for only one former star wide receiver on the Giants roster, at least according to Brandon Marshall.

After the recently cut Dez Bryant said he wanted to play for the Giants this season, Marshall, 33, shut down the former Cowboy, writing, “Sorry baby bro no room. @dezbryant,” in a since-deleted Instagram story, captured by NFL Update.

Marshall, who signed a twoyear, $12 million deal with the Giants last offseason, was rumored to be a potential cap casualty, given that cutting him would save the team $5.1 million. Marshall’s first year with the team was short-lived, as he was sidelined with an ankle injury after five games.

Bryant raved about the Giants, hyping him teaming with Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shephard, but made no mention of Marshall.

“Playing with him [Beckham], Sterling [Shepard] … the tight end [Evan Engram], [QB Eli] Manning? Crazy. They draft [Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick]? That’d be crazy!” Bryant told CBSSports.

It is unlikely there would be room for both Marshall and Bryant on the Giants, and the team seems to be content sticking with Marshall. The Ravens are in the mix as one of the prime suitors for the 29-year-old Bryant.

Bryant was released by the Cowboys on Friday after eight seasons in Dallas. His production has declined in recent years, catching 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns last season. He was owed $12.5 million for 2018 and has failed to amass 1,000 yards in three straight seasons.

“I’ll say this right here: I believe that ‘[head coach Jason] Garrett guys’ [are to blame]. I would say that,” Bryant told NFL Network following his release. “I won’t put no names out, but they know, and I want them to know I know.”

Bryant was said to be irked after not being selected a captain last year, with the honors on offense instead going to quarterback Dak Prescott and tight end Jason Witten.
