Preg via sperm from gov’s aide slain in ’15
The widow of the stategovernment lawyer killed by a stray bullet at the 2015 J’ouvert celebration in Brooklyn is pregnant with his child.
Sporting a noticeable baby bump, Trenelle Gabay was in Brooklyn Criminal Court Wednesday as pretrial hearings kicked off in the case of five suspects who allegedly participated in the 2015 gunfight that killed Carey Gabay, 43, a staff lawyer with Gov. Cuomo’s Empire State Development Corp..
She is seven months pregnant with a boy, via sperm that doctors har- vested from Carey in his last days, according to WCBS/Channel 2.
“That is Carey’s profile,” she told the TV station, pointing to an ultrasound of the baby.
“Definitely his mouth and his jawline, and it’s just God’s miracle,” she said, adding that she plans to name the child Carey.
Trenelle said she “didn’t plan on being a single mom, but here I am and I just can’t wait to meet this little guy.”
She said “it will be a proud moment” when she takes the child to the street in Clinton Hill renamed for her husband.
Carey was attending a then-predawn West Indian Day Parade festival known as J’ouvert on Sept. 7, 2015, when a gang fight broke out at about 3:40 a.m. and a stray bullet struck him in the head.
Carey was an innocent bystander caught in a firefight between members of the local Folk Nation street gang and rivals from the 8Trey Crips who had strolled onto the other gang’s turf.
At least 36 shots were fired at Bedford and Crown avenues, authorities have said.
Gabay died nine days later after being removed from life support.
