Engram dreams of unstoppable offense

- By STEVE SERBY

Evan Engram can imagine the possibilities: Saquon Barkley in the backfield, Odell Beckham Jr. — and Sterling Shepard and Engram — running routes for Eli Manning.

“When you got those guys on the field at the same time, it puts defenses in a bind, kinda pickyour-poison approach to i t ,” Engram said Wednesday at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore’s annual Sports Day.

“To have him on the field with Odell and the rest of the talent we have, it could be dangerous if we could put it all together, if that happens,” Engram said.

Engram has seen clips of Barkley.

“He’s a game-changer,” he said. “He can take a read-option 80 yards to the house or he can take an opening kickoff to the house. He can catch out of the backfield. He’s just a really good complete player, and if he can carry that success over to the next level, he’ll be a big game-changer even in the NFL.”

Engram doesn’t know much about the quarterbacks in this draft. But he does believe that his friend Davis Webb has a bright future.

“Hard work l i ke t hat j ust doesn’t go unnoticed and unrewarded, and the way he works and how much he cares about the game and how much he cares about being successful in this game, and how much he appreciates learning from Eli, helping him out and learning how to be a pro like Eli has been” Engram said. “He’s easily gonna be a starting quarterback in this league without a doubt.”

Engram was asked about Beck- ham’s frame of mind during the workout program last week.

“He’s real focused, just from talking to him. ... He’s really excited about the offense that we’re in and the opportunities that are gonna be present for us,” Engram said.

Engram’s eyes lit up talking about Pat Shurmur’s offense.

“It’s simple, but it’s gonna give defenses headaches, and if we can just put everything together and keep working towards being successful on that, it’s gonna be a really fun year and really fun for our offense playing in his system,” Engram said.
