Last year’s top Gang Green draft pick a big fan of Mayfield

- By STEVE SERBY

It takes one swaggerlicious player to know one.

“I know Baker [Mayf ield]. ... Baker def initely has the swagger and energy and conf idence I definitely love,” Jets safety Jamal Adams said Wednesday at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore annual Sports Day. “Wherever he lands is gonna be the right fit for him, and he’s gonna do a helluva job at it.”

Mayfield is in play for the Jets with the third pick of next week’s NFL draft.

“He went to [Oklahoma]. I’m from Texas, so I ’ ve seen him around in Texas a bunch of times, and just watching him play, he’s definitely a fierce competitor,” Adams said.

May field has that infamous crotch-grabbing incident and late-night arrest, but Adams would not be concerned about him under the New York microscope.

“New York is definitely a different media aspect, it’s a different chamber, but I think you gotta have the right guy to come in and be able to handle New York,” Adams said. “Those things are in the past for him. He’s not worried about that anymore, he’s moved on, and he’s focused on next week.”

Adams, the sixth pick of last year’s draft, was asked who had more swag, him- self or Mayfield. “Jamal Adams,” he said. Adams is far less familiar with Sam Darnold, who could also fall to the Jets.

“I do not know much. I know he goes to USC,” Adams said, and smiled.

In the meantime, Josh McCown is the starter.

“Uncle Josh is what I call him. ... Unc is gonna come in and do his thing as always,” Adams said. “He’s a fierce competitor, he’s a leader, and he definitely keeps everybody in that locker room going.”

Adams was excited about the addition of freeagent corner back T rumaine Johnson.

“Tru, as we call him, is an outstanding player, a guy that is not only gonna give it to you on the field, off the field as far as learning, as far as watching film. He’s a total package and he’s def i ni te ly a gamechanger,” Adams said.

Adams has vi s i ons of Jets grandeur.

“I think not only this defense can be dominant, this team can be dominant,” he said. “We’re tryi ng to win. There’s no waiting on next year or the year after. We’re not building anymore. Those yo u n ge r d ays a re ove r with. Last year was last ye a r. We’ve moved o n. We’re focused to getting to the championship, as every team in the NFL is.”
