Donovan’s tricky dance
Staten Island Republican Rep. Dan Donovan is walking a legislative tightrope between the Trump administration and his constituents, proposing a measure to hit sanctuary cities with financial penalties, but not target funding to police.
Donovan plans to introduce a bill this week that would cut off federal funding to New York and other sanctuary cities for the costs associated with jailing undocumented criminal immigrants, but not endanger anti-terrorism money for the NYPD.
White House-sponsored bills have targeted the terrorism funds.
