Blast kills 57 in Kabul
An Islamic State suicide bomber attacked a voterregistration center in the Afghanistan capital of Kabul on Sunday, killing 57 people and wounding more than 100, the Interior and Public Health ministries said.
Among those killed were eight children and 22 women, Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Majro said. There were 119 people wounded.
Gen. Daud Amin, the Kabul police chief, said the bomber targeted civilians who were registering for national identification cards ahead of parliamentary elections in October.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
