MLB: Red Sox suffer first losing streak of season

-

Khris Davis hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer off David Price with two outs in the eighth inning and the Athletics beat the Red Sox 4-1 on Sunday in Oakland, Calif. A day after getting no-hit by Sean Manaea, Boston lost back-to-back games for the first time under new manager Alex Cora. The Red Sox still have the best record in the majors at 17-4. Cody Bellinger followed Yasmani Grandal’s two-run double with a tying RBI double in the sixth, and Corey Seager drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning of the Dodgers’ sixth win in seven games, 4-3 over the Nationals in Los Angeles. In Denver, Nolan Arenado was initially called safe by umpire Cory Blaser when he tried to score on a bases-loaded pitch that bounced to the backstop, then was ruled out when a video review concluded reliever Brandon Morrow applied the tag on a throw from catcher Willson Contreras as the Cubs won, 9-7. Cubs star Kris Bryant was hit on the head with a 96 mph pitch from German Marquez in the first inning and left the game. Bryant passed tests and had no sign of a concussion. In Philadelphia, Aaron Altherr’s RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the Phillies to a 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh, giving Philadelphia its first four-game sweep over the Pirates in 24 years.
