Outrageous ‘Mercy’

-

Outrageous but true: An ISIS backer known to have been actively planning an attack on New York City stabs an FBI agent . . . and gets just 17 years behind bars.

Fareed Mumuni, a 23-year-old ISIS wannabe, faced up to 100 years in prison on Thursday in Brooklyn federal court. Last year, he pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to provide ISIS with support, conspiracy to assault federal officers and attempted murder of federal officers.

Back in 2015, FBI agent Kevin Coughlin was executing a search warrant at Mumuni’s Staten Island apartment — when Mumuni repeatedly stabbed him in the chest so forcefully that the tip of the knife actually broke in the plates of his protective vest.

The feds and NYPD were investigating Mumuni in connection with an alleged plot by Munther Omar Saleh of Queens to explode pressure-cooker bombs, court documents show. Those filings also indicate that Mumuni, after his arrest, said he was “willing to die today . . . to become a member of the Islamic State or to die trying.”

How could a terrorist who succeeds in wounding an FBI agent get such a light sentence? Well, this comes in the same climate that Friday sprung cop-killer and “Black revolutionary” Herman Bell, on the heels of other terrorists from the 1960s and ’70s.

Yes, Mumuni offered a perfunctory apology in court; so what? Mercy to those willing to wage war on our society is a slap in the face to all the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us.
