A Battle for the Left: Cuomo’s Progressive Push
THE ISSUE: Gov. Cuomo’s rush to implement liberal policies in the wake of Cynthia Nixon’s campaign launch.
It’s pitiful to watch Gov. Cuomo desperately seek to outdo Cynthia Nixon — a middling actress who has no political experience whatsoever (“Cuomo running scared,” Michael Goodwin, April 25).
Perhaps if Cuomo pointed out to those in the private sector — as well as upstaters and nonpublic employees tired of funding goldplated benefits for others — what would happen if a “progressive” like Nixon were to take power in Albany, he might at least sound consistent.

Last week, Nixon told Stephen Colbert on his late-night show that Cuomo “governs like a Republican.”
Cuomo recently decided to grant 35,000 convicted felons the right to vote, and did so through an “executive order” completely bypassing the Legislature.
It sounds like he’s governing like President Barack Obama, who once said “I have a pen and a phone.”
I realize Nixon is pandering to the ultra-hard left in order to gain the nomination, but making ridiculous statements that imply Cuomo is somehow “conservative” or “Republican” is just loony. Is Cynthia really that delusional?

Here we go again: Gov. Cuomo has proposed a ban on plastic bags.
These bags are the biggest problem in the universe — according to New York politicians.
I would ask him into what receptacle should we put our garbage? Do we buy plastic bags or any other plastics to be used for garbage disposal?
I’m sorry, but all these politicians are so busy trying to outdo each other that they can’t think straight. Progressive?

After reading Goodwin’s column on Cuomo, one thing is certain: The governor doesn’t have a chance in hell of becoming president if he runs in 2020.
New York squeezes taxpayers to the hilt. Spending cannot possibly match the overwhelming demand.
Cuomo has a following of New York liberals who have bought into his agenda — an agenda that might succeed here but will fail miserably nationwide.
