Jackie’s kin get brush-off

- By KATHIANNE BONIELLO

Jackie Kennedy’s relatives drummed up false claims about a missing painting of the former first lady so they could make a buck, charges the Hamptons art dealer who now owns the work.

The relatives — descendants of Jackie’s aunt “Big Edie” Beale and cousin “Little Edie” Beale — sued East Hampton gallery owner Terry Wallace (inset) in February for the portrait of a then-19-yearold Jacqueline Bouvier.

Bouvier Beale Jr., a nephew of Little Edie, claims in the lawsuit that the artwork had been be- queathed to Big Edie and later stolen from her famed Long Island estate, Grey Gardens.

The once-decaying home was immortalized in the 1975 Mayles Brothers documentary “Grey Gardens.” It has since been lavishly restored.

Wallace contends the painting was never willed to Big Edie, never stolen, and the relatives only “want the painting now because [they are] capitalizing on the mansion’s fame by offering a variety of Grey Gardensrelated items for sale,” according to Wallace’s lawyer’s Brooklyn federal-court response.

The Beale relatives maintain the painting was lost or stolen from Grey Gardens amid years of decline and delusion at the Hamptons manse, where the reclusive Edies lived like hermits among feral cats and raccoons.

A lawyer for Beale Jr. declined to comment.
