Say YES to ‘Path’ series
YES, on May 8, returns “Homegrown: The Path to Pinstripes,” a simple-themed but superbly produced up-close-and-personal show about life and lifestyles among Yankees minor leaguers. Last year’s included the moments when Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Clint Frazier and Jordan Montgomery were called up.
Last Sunday night at the start of ESPN’s Nationals-Dodgers, Alex Rodriguez noted the 5:15 Pacific Time shadow between the mound and home plate: “It’s a nightmare for hitters.” He didn’t mention the nightmare was caused by MLB selling Sunday night games to ESPN.
Instead of demonstrating their gratitude to patrons who show up in cold, rainy, dismal April weather, the Yankees exploited them. A cup of hot chocolate — hot water and mix — sold for $9.75.
Question: Do you think those heroes among Oklahoma City Thunder ownership and management who determined team broadcaster Brian Davis be suspended for using a “racially charged” expression — Davis admired a fabulous Russell Westbrook pass with “He’s out of his cotton-pickin’ mind!” — previously knew the expression had any negative racial meaning? Neither do I.
John Sterling never tires of his self-promotional, highly descriptive and intentionally dishonest, “It is high! It is far!” home run calls, those that follow with word that it was a line drive that just cleared the wall.
The next time the Devils make the playoffs, Prudential Center management should either ban kids from attending or insist those group-entitled champs who chant unprintable vulgarities at the opposition cut it out or be thrown out.
Now in her sixth season with YES, it’s time Meredith Marakovits began to ask some questions of Yankees to which she — and we — don’t already know the answers.
