Man shot dead in apt. next to slay vic’s

-

A man was found fatally shot in his Brooklyn apartment on Sunday evening — just two days after his next-door neighbor was mysteriously gunned down in her unit.

Cops say the murders could be connected.

“There is similar forensic evidence that I observed in today’s apartment that was similar to Friday’s,” NYPD Deputy Chief Charles McEvoy said hours after 54-year-old Basil Gray was found dead at the Bushwick Houses.

Gray lived right next door to Ana Devalle, 62, whose body was discovered in her fifth-floor residence at around 6:45 p.m. Friday.

Her hands were bound and she was shot in the back of the head.

“Based upon what I saw and what I know, it’s a strong possibil- ity that the male that was discovered today did not die today,” McEvoy said. “There’s a strong possibility that he died on the same date and at the approximate time as his female neighbor.”

Police officials wouldn’t confirm whether Gray, too, was bound, but they did say he was killed in the “same manner” as Devalle.

One possibility that authorities are looking into is whether Gray or Devalle heard the other being shot and came out to investigate, prompting the killer to shoot the earwitness, too.

“It could all be related,” said one building resident. “I’m no detective, but maybe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
